The Independence football team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Friday and nearly knocked off Richardson Pearce in two overtimes.
The Knights lost 38-37, but their performance included many bright spots.
Logan Brungardt was a workhorse at running back, rushing 31 times for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Braylon Braxton threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 91 yards.
The Independence defense held Pearce scoreless in the second half to help force overtime.
Independence plays Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday at FISD Memorial Stadium.
