Independence High School soon-to-be senior John McGraw was awarded a $2,500 college scholarship last week at the Cowboys U Football Camp at The Star.

McGraw, a safety for the Independence football team, received the award through the Jason Garrett Starfish Charities' Make a Difference Challenge. As part of the Cowboys U Football Camp, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett challenges the attending student-athletes to devise a plan to improve their schools or communities.

McGraw's plan, which presented an idea on character education within the Independence community, was selected for the award. The scholarship money can be used at the college of his choice.
