The Independence football team improved to 2-0 on Friday with a 49-20 victory over Memorial at the Ford Center at The Star.

The Knights broke open the game with three touchdowns in the second quarter -- all on touchdown passes by Braylon Braxton. Braxton connected with Elijah Arroyo for a 5-yard touchdown, and then with Khi'Yon Wafer for touchdowns of 6 and 15 yards as Independence opened up a 28-12 halftime lead.

The second-year Memorial program, which a week earlier had beaten Celina on the road, kept battling in the second half. Quarterback Charlie Flowers finished more than 200 yards of passing and two touchdowns -- both to Joel Shea.

But the Independence offense, which piled up more than 500 total yards, kept the game from getting close. The Independence defense also intercepted three passes. Linebacker Sam Quiroz had two of them.
