Independence Football Team Improves to 3-0 with Another Big Win

The Independence football team put together another dominant performance on Friday, crushing Denton 63-7 at FISD Memorial Stadium.

Independence piled up a 49-0 halftime lead on its way to more than 600 yards of offense. The Knights, who are 3-0 as they enter District 5-5A play, are averaging 56.3 points per game.

The defense also played well for Independence, holding Denton to a little more than 100 total yards. (Statistics provided by Dallas Morning News’ SportsDayHS). The Independence defense intercepted a pass, recovered a fumble, forced five punts and stopped Denton on two fourth downs.

Braylon Braxton threw six touchdown passes – three of them to Zhiglil McMillan.

Independence has a week off before starting district play on Thursday, Sept. 26 against Liberty at Toyota Stadium.

Independence is 3-0 for the first time since 2016. Here's a recap of the first two games of the season:

-- INDEPENDENCE 49, MEMORIAL 20 --

The Knights broke open the game with three touchdowns in the second quarter -- all on touchdown passes by Braylon Braxton. Braxton connected with Elijah Arroyo for a 5-yard touchdown, and then with Khi'Yon Wafer for touchdowns of 6 and 15 yards as Independence opened up a 28-12 halftime lead.

The Independence offense piled up more than 500 total yards. The Independence defense also intercepted three passes. Linebacker Sam Quiroz had two of them.

-- INDEPENDENCE 57, RICHARDSON PEARCE 14 --

Braylon Braxton threw for four touchdowns to lead Frisco Independence to a season-opening win. Three TD passes were to Khi'Yon Wafer, who had more than 200 receiving yards.

The Independence defense shut out Pearce in the second half. Pearce's four second-half possessions resulted in two interceptions, a punt and a turnover on downs.
