After a big rally by Little Elm on Friday night, the Independence football team had a big challenge. Playing in the wet conditions on a rainy night, the Knights would need a touchdown drive to win on the road.
Independence got what it needed -- an 89-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 4-yard pass from Braylon Braxton to Jackson Rhodes with a little more than a minute left. The touchdown gave Independence a 35-31 lead, and the Knights' defense stopped Little Elm on its final drive to preserve the win.
The big play on the winning touchdown drive was Braxton's 56-yard pass to Khi'Yon Wafer to set up a first and goal. (Statistics provided by the Dallas Morning News' SportsDayHs.com).
It was the second straight victory for Independence (6-2, 3-2 in 5-5A Division I), which is alone in third place in 5-5A Division I. Four teams from the district will make the playoffs.
Independence next plays at The Colony on Friday (Nov. 1). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
