Frisco ISD’s tradition of wrestling success continued this weekend as the District’s student-athletes piled up accomplishments at the University Interscholastic League State Championships.

At the two-day event at the Berry Center in Cypress, three FISD wrestlers won individual state titles, four more were state runners-up and a total of 18 District wrestlers became state placers by finishing in the top six of their weight classes. The District also had five teams that finished in the top 15 in the state in either the boys or girls team standings.

The Centennial boys finished fifth in the team standings, followed by Reedy in 12th and Liberty in 13th. In the girls standings, Liberty was sixth and Independence was ninth. Counting boys and girls, 12 FISD teams had at least one wrestler win a match at the state tournament.

Lone Star senior La’Stot Pleasant capped an incredible season, winning the boys 132-pound title and finishing with a 53-0 record. Pleasant, the 132-pound state runner-up as a junior, dominated his weight class as a senior. Pleasant pinned his first three state opponents in the first period, and in the championship match, he won 20-8. Pleasant was named the state tournament’s Outstanding Boys Wrestler.

Reedy’s Jackson Bourne also capped off his senior season with a state title, winning the boys 138-pound class. He pinned his first state opponent and then shut out the next three, winning 13-0, 3-0 and 6-0.

Independence junior Tabitha Wood was the other FISD wrestler to win an individual gold, taking the girls 119-pound title. Wood, the state runner-up in the weight class last year, won a 3-1 decision in the championship match this season.

Along with the state champions, FISD had four other wrestlers in the state finals: Centennial’s Tyten Volk, Reedy’s Tucker Spradley, Lebanon Trail’s Max Hampton and Liberty’s Princess Egbuchunam.

In addition to the wrestler accomplishments, Centennial coach Jake Jackson was honored. The Titans coach was inducted in the Texas High School Wrestling Hall of Honor.
